Britto Art Exhibit

Stop by Time Warner Center to see pop artist Romero Britto’s latest exhibit. Romero Britto (b.1963) is a Brazilian artist based in Miami. Born in the disadvantaged area of Recife, he was self-taught at an early age by painting on surfaces such as newspapers. In 1983, he traveled to Paris where he was introduced to the work of Matisse and Picasso. He combined influences from cubism with pop to create a vibrant and iconic style that The New York Times describes, “exudes warmth, optimism and love.”

Tatzu Nishi: Discovering Columbus 9/20 - 12/2 - EXTENDED

Entitled Tatzu Nishi: Discovering Columbus, this major new artwork has been created for New York City’s Columbus Circle by the Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi. The work places the 13-foot-tall statue of Columbus in the center of an American living room six stories above the city streets, recontextualizing the historical monument and temporarily transforming it into a contemporary artwork. The room will feature many of the trappings of a domestic living room—lamps, a couch, a coffee table, a television, and more—as well as custom wallpaper by the artist. Through large, loft-style windows, visitors will have dramatic views of Central Park and Midtown Manhattan that will be seen from Columbus’s perspective for the first time.
Free timed passes, in 30 minute intervals, become available the afternoon of September 12 though the Public Art Fund website, www.PublicArtFund.org. Entry to this exhibition is by timed ticket only, and each visitor must present his or her own pass to enter. Each pass is valid only for the date and time indicated and grants access to the exhibition for up to 30 minutes. The line to enter the exhibition forms within Columbus Circle at the northwest entrance. Pass holders are asked to climb six flights of stairs to a height of 70 feet above street level and to descend by a second set of stairs. Flat, rubber-soled shoes are strongly recommendend time indicated and grants access to the exhibition for up to 30 minutes. Extended through December 2, 2012.
