Sep 6, 2017

Cinema lovers rejoice! Fantastic films, documentaries, and shorts are almost upon us as we anticipate the 55th New York Film Festival. From September 28 through October 15, the Film Society of Lincoln Center will once again live up to its slogan, "Film Lives Here", hosting another amazing line-up of cinema from around the world and from both celebrated and up-and-coming directors.

This year's Main Slate showcases films honored at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival including Ruben Östlund's Palme d'Or-winner The Square; Robin Campillo's BPM, awarded the Cannes Critics' Prize; and Agnès Varda & JR's Faces Places, which took home the Golden Eye. Aki Kaurismäki and Agnieszka Holland, both from Berlin, are two returning New York Film Festival veterans with Main Slate films, while some directors will enjoy their first NYFF debut this year, like Sean Baker, Greta Gerwig, and Chloé Zhao, to name just a few. Directors also returning this year include Arnaud Desplechin, Noah Baumbach, Claire Denis, and Lucrecia Martel, plus more.

From the Main Slate line-up, the NYFF55 Opening Night feature is Richard Linklater's Last Flag Flying. Centerpiece of the festival will be Todd Haynes's Wonderstruck and Woody Allen's Wonder Wheel will close the festival. In addition to the Main Slate schedule headline features, the festival also includes other category features. Notably, Special Events will feature Susan Froemke's The Opera House, a history of the Metropolitan Opera that will have a special screening in the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.

The 18-day 55th New York Film Festival recognizes the best in world cinema, featuring wonderful works from much loved filmmakers as well as inspiring new talent. So, it's time to start planning your New York Film Festival experience!
